Hot Pit BBQ
First on the list is Del Rio’s own Hot Pit BBQ. Located on Veterans Blvd, this mainstay is open from 11 am to 7 pm Monday through Saturday and serves up all the favorites: brisket, ribs, turkey, chicken, sausage, along with all your favorite sides like cole slaw, beans, potato salad, and corn on the cob. Looking to cool off on a hot day in Del Rio? Try a sweet tea! As well as the staples, Hot Pit also serves up some of the best BBQ sandwiches in town. Try a chopped brisket sandwich, or if your appetite runs a little larger, try the Cowboy Sandwich, both covered in Hot Pit’s delicious BBQ sauce. Hot Pit also has something you won’t find on many other BBQ menus: a smoked baked potato covered with sour cream, cheese, and your choice of smoked meat. Or, let your inner carnivore loose and enjoy a king-size smoked turkey leg! Hot Pit BBQ has an ample indoor seating area, and also serves their food to go with curbside pickup. Be sure to ask about their event catering as well.
Rudy’s Country Store and BBQ
Next is a name familiar to any Texan who loves BBQ: Rudy’s Country Store and BBQ. Rudy’s has been serving Texas BBQ since 1989 and operates stores and restaurants all over the state. They are famous for their combination of great food, great service, and their collection of gifts and branded merchandise for sale alongside a stunning array of smoked meats. From their humble beginnings with a combination store, bbq joint and gas station just outside San Antonio to more than 40 stores and restaurants all over the southwest, Rudy’s is an institution. But don’t let their big britches fool you, when it comes to BBQ, Rudy’s is the genuine article. They prefer slow burning oak wood to the more common mesquite for their smoked meats. Paired with their house made ‘sause’ and secret dry-rub, this combination makes for a truly delectable BBQ experience. Aside from the staples of brisket, ribs, sausage, turkey and chicken, Rudy’s has a few items you won’t find in other BBQ joints such as Green Chile Stew, Prime Rib, and smoked pork loin. They even have breakfast tacos! Don’t skip the dessert menu either, the peach cobbler is not to be missed. Rudy’s gets busy at lunch, so be ready to wait in line, but don’t worry, the food is worth it.
