2022 F-150 Lightning

The future of pickup trucks has arrived, and it’s electric. The all-new 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has been announced and just like its gas-powered cousin, it’s changing the pickup truck game forever.

The 2022 F-150 Lightning is an all-electric pickup truck with the power you expect from F-150. If you’re thinking that there’s no way an electric truck can handle your towing needs, think again. The F-150 Lightning is planned to have a maximum available towing capacity of 10,000 lbs. at launch when properly equipped. That’s enough for the boat, the trailer, equipment, and whatever else you need to move. They’re also targeting a maximum payload of 2,000 lbs., so you’re covered for whatever you need to carry. You expect a truck to haul heavy things, but what you might not expect is just how much torque the new electric engine can put out. The F-150 Lighting is expected to launch with 563 horsepower and a whopping 775 pound-feet of torque!

Now that you can see that the F-150 Lighting has all the power you need, let’s talk, well, power! This is a 100% electric truck propelled by two separate engines; one for the back wheels and one for the front. This standard 4×4 system offers superior handling and control on or off the road. The standard battery can carry you up to 230 miles on a single charge, while the available extended range battery can take you up to 300 before needing to top up. You can even use your truck as a backup generator. If you’re on the job site and need to power up a table saw, just plug into one of the F-150 Lightning’s 11 power outlets. You can even power your home for up to 10 days, if rationing properly, with Ford Intelligent Backup Power! You’ll never have to worry about the lights going out with your F-150 Lightning.

Now all of that is pretty cool, but here’s where we really go into the future. The 2022 F-150 Lightning will offer the available BlueCruise system. This advanced feature utilizes a driver-facing camera and radar-sensing technologies to allow for hands-free driving on select sections of highways known as Hand-Free Blue Zones*. These zones cover up to 100,000 miles of roads in North America, so your commute could have just gotten a whole lot easier.

There’s plenty of other advanced technology features as well, such as the available Phone as a Key, which lets you access your F-150 Lightning from your phone, and Intelligent Range, which automatically calculates how much battery range you have based on weather, route, grade, traffic, payload, and more. It will even actively update your range based on upcoming conditions like mountains or rain.

*Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment, and need to control the vehicle. BlueCruise is a hands-free highway driving feature. Only remove hands from the steering wheel when in a Hands-Free Blue Zone. Always watch the road and be prepared to resume control of the vehicle. It does not replace safe driving. See Owner’s manual for details and limitations.
